JennAir Freezer Not Cold Enough - 3 Ways to Troubleshoot.

Have you noticed that your JennAir freezer is just not staying as cold as it used to? If so, your freezer is probably in need of a little love, care, and attention. Most of the time, troubleshooting should eliminate the reason your JennAir freezer is not staying cold enough. Utilizing these easy troubleshooting hacks should get your freezer back up and running optimally within 24 hours.

Here are our 3 ways to troubleshoot your JennAir freezer:

JennAir Freezer
  1. Condenser Coils are Dirty

If your JennAir freezer is not staying cold enough, you will first want to check your condenser coils. When the coils get dirty, they no longer are able dissipate the heat the freezer is releasing from cooling the freezer. This will cause your JennAir freezer to work in overdrive and will likely end in a freezer that is warmer than it should be.

The condenser coils are located on the back of your unit or underneath, depending on the style of freezer you have (upright and chest). With them being exposed overtime, they will begin to collect dirt, debris, dust, and hair. This is the reason that the coils must be cleaned every so often to ensure that your freezer can run properly and maintain the right temperature setting.

Every technician and manufacturer will always recommend that you perform maintenance on your condenser coils every 6-12 months. To perform maintenance, clean the condenser coils very gently with a vacuum. Once you have cleaned the coils, wait 24 hours to see if this fixed the issue of your JennAir freezer not cooling properly.

2. Temperature is Set Incorrectly

If your JennAir freezer (or refrigerator) is not staying cold enough, and you have cleaned the condenser coils, check to ensure that the temperature is set to the correct setting. We recommend that you refer to the owner’s manual to follow the recommended temperature setting for the unit as each can be slightly different.

If the temperature is set to the correct setting, it may be that you have a faulty thermostat. Turn the thermostat from the lowest temperature to the highest temperature, if you did not hear a click, you most likely have a faulty thermostat, and it must be replaced. We recommend that you call in a certified
JennAir repair technician to test to see if it is faulty.

3. Evaporator Coils are Frosted Over, Causing a Warm Freezer

If your freezer is staying warm, it may mean that the evaporator coils have frozen over. If this has happened, it is likely that your defrost system has failed within your freezer. Your defrost system will turn on and off throughout the day to remove any frost that has built up on the coils. If this system is to fail, it will lead to your coils being completely frosted over.

You can call in one of our technicians to run a multimeter test on your defrost system to see if it has indeed failed.
