It may be that your dishwasher needs new parts but it is usually a simple change to your use or a quick and easy clean to get it back up and functioning properly.

1. Not Properly Loading Dishes

Not properly loading your dishwasher can be the easiest reason to why your LG dishwasher is not cleaning dishes properly. If you are not using the racks properly or you are overloading your dishwasher, you are preventing detergent and water from reaching each item.

Here are a couple loading tips to improve your dishwasher performance:

  1. Do not overload: Ensure there is always enough space between each item in your dishwasher to let water, air, and detergent to reach each item.
  2. Place larger items on the bottom rack: Place tall items like trays and pans in the bottom rack around the perimeter to avoid blocking the spray arms.
  3. Place glassware on the top rack: Ensure you place glassware between the tines to ensure they are not moving during washing.
  4. Check your spray arms: Before you start a wash, move the spray arms to ensure they do not hit anything that is loaded in the racks.

2. Dishwasher Needs to be Cleaned

Without routine cleaning, mildew, mold, and food particles can accumulate quickly in the dishwashers moist and warm environment. This buildup can make spray arms or filters not function properly resulting in dirty dishes. We recommend to clean your dishwasher on a monthly basis to avoid this.

How to Clean LG Dishwasher:

Filter:

  • Turn your filter counterclockwise to remove the filter
  • Gently scrub both the main and mesh filters separately with a sponge and warm water.
  • Return both filters by turning them clockwise to secure them in place

Spray Arms:

  • Remove the lower and upper spray arms
  • Rinse both under warm water in the sink using a non-abrasive sponge to remove mildew and mold.
  • Use a straightened paper clip or toothpick to unclog spray holes.
  • Replace spray arms.

Tub:

  • Pour 8-10 ounces of vinegar to a bowl and place it in the top rack of empty dishwasher.
  • Run an auto cycle with hot water and no detergent.
  • Repeat this with a second cycle.

3. Dishwasher Detergent Issues

Detergent is important to ensuring the proper cleaning of your dishes. Improper use and dispenser malfunctions can leave your dishes dirty.

To determine if you are using the proper detergent usage, check these tips:

  • Add the Right Amounts: Too much detergent can leave a residue on your dishes and not enough can leave your dishes dirty. Refer to the instructions for your detergent to ensure you are using the proper amounts.
  • Use a High Quality Detergent: Make sure the detergent you are using contains pre-wash treatment and degreaser. For storing your detergent, make sure to store it in a dry, cool place and using it within the first 3 months of purchasing is best.
  • Check the dispense: After a cycle is complete, check to make sure the detergent dispenser opened. If the dispenser is broken, it may require a dishwasher repair or replacement.

4. Water Supply Issue

If you find that your dishwasher is still not performing well, it could be an issue with your water supply. Without sufficient hot water, the dishwasher can not clean properly.

Here is how you can check your water supply:

  • Check water pressure: LG dishwashers requires a pressure of 587-672-0799 PSI to properly open and close the inlet valve to provide your dishwasher with water. Without proper pressure, your dishwasher will not be able to open properly to allow enough hot water in. If you find that your pressure for your kitchen sink is low, you may need to have your home's water pressure serviced by a professional.
  • Check the water inlet valve: If your valve has proper pressure, but still does not open, your dishwasher will not have access to water. A faulty inlet valve must be serviced by a professional appliance repair technician.
  • Inspect spray arms: Your spray arms may be clogged and a simple cleaning can fix this. If your spray arms are cracked or damaged, it will need to be replaced.
  • Check water temperature: For best results, your dishwasher water supply should be at a temperature of 48 degree celsius. You can run water at your kitchen sink before running your dishwasher to ensure the starting temperature is readily available.
