We Have Answered: Should I Self-Clean My Oven?
The turkeys, hams, or casseroles you are cooking up for your next holiday, it is important that they are cooked at the right temperature to ensure the proper cook. If you are planning on running a self-clean cycle before the holidays, we recommend that you perform a clean yourself instead of using your ovens cleaning function.
What are the Problems that Can Arise From Running a Self-Clean
A good tip to note every year is to not perform a self-clean on your oven before a cooking or baking day. Some ovens self-cleaning temperatures can be up to 1000oF and this can cause your oven to malfunction or breakdown easily. It may trip the thermostat, cause the door latches to fail, and in some cases, fry the control panel.
We recommend that you perform a self-clean at least 2 weeks before you are to have a cooking or baking day. This way if something is to malfunction, you will be able to repair it in time.
We also recommend that when you are cleaning your cooktop or range top, that you are very careful with the amount of water or cleaning product you use around the control dials and nobs. If you use an excessive amount of water near any part that is conducting electricity, you are running the risk of short-circuiting the oven’s control system. This is not a fire hazard, but you run the risk of wrecking many different parts within your oven if you are to short-circuit the control system. When cleaning your range top or cooktop, a damp cloth is enough to do the trick.
