Maytag Dryer Not Starting Up.

Maytag Dryer No Power

It never fails-you just notice that your dryer doesn't turn on when a lot of wet clothes are waiting. So why doesn't my Maytag dryer start? The door may not be completely closed. Make sure the door latch is closed and that the latch is functioning properly. Use the Maytag Dryer troubleshooting tips to determine the cause of the startup problem.

5 Common Reasons Maytag Dryer Won't Start

From user errors to component failures, there are several possible reasons why the Maytag tumble dryer will not turn on. We identify the most probable cause and recommend the best solution to quickly restore the function of the dryer.

1. The dryer is not powered

If the Maytag dryer doesn't turn on, it's a good place to start checking the power. Even dryers that use gas heat need electricity to power its motor and other functions.

Here's how to assess power issues:

Is the dryer connected to a working electrical connection? Make sure the cord is firmly plugged into the outlet. Turn off the dryer, connect something else, and test the outlet. If the device does not turn on, the outlet may be defective and needs further testing. Are there circuit breakers or broken fuses? Check the home breaker box. Replace the breaker and replace the blown fuse. Note that the electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses to get enough power. Does the dryer work with extension cords? These cables cannot safely conduct the voltage required for the dryer and can overheat and prevent startup. Do not use extension cords to power dryers and large appliances.

2. Dryer door is not latched shut

As a safety precaution, most dryers will not turn on if the door is closed and unlocked. Even if the door appears to be locked, lightly press it to make sure the latch is caught. When you do this, you will usually hear a small click. If the latch does not lock, look for clothing that may not lock the door. If there is no lock, the latch will not lock and if the Maytag dryer does not start, the latch may be damaged. Broken latches need to be replaced by a specialist.

* Tip: Always be careful when opening and closing the dryer door. Slamming it can damage the locking mechanism over time and prevent the dryer from starting.

3. Dryer performance issues

Certain dryer cycles or features prohibit immediate start when activated. For example, if the wrinkle reduction option is selected, the dryer will not start immediately. Similarly, the control lock setting locks all electronic functions and prevents the dryer from turning on. Make sure the control lock light is off and you can choose an automatic or timely dry cycle to start right away. Are you thinking of ways to speed up the drying of your clothes? Refer to the user manual to determine the optimal automatic or scheduled drying cycle for your particular laundry load.

4. Defective Maytag Dryer Thermal Fuse

The Maytag dryer's thermal fuse is a safety device that blows when the dryer is in danger of overheating, interrupting all functions. If the Maytag dryer does not turn on, just a click and a multimeter test will show that the fuse is not conducting, blown or broken. In either case, the fuse is irreparable and must be replaced.

A blown thermal fuse justifies a ventilation inspection of the dryer, even if there is no suspicion of overheating. Ventilation ducts that are clogged with lint, dirt, or dryer blades can restrict air flow and cause overheating. 5. Broken Maytag Dryer Start Switch

Pressing the power button activates the power switch, indicating that the drive motor will start operating. If you press the start button and there is no sound from the dryer, the power switch may be broken. If the multimeter test shows no continuity, replace the ignition switch on the Maytag dryer.
